September 2017 Newsletter

NOTE FROM SSS

Good Day,

For those of you who attended the Santa Fe Mini Retreat, it was an amazing few days with terrific speakers, interesting activities, and fantastic shopping, all with the beautiful city of Santa Fe as our backdrop. Thank you to the entire Santa Fe Committee for their hard work and efforts to make everyone feel so welcome in their hometown. From getting the opportunity to hear the Governor speak at the Roundhouse, our time at the historic La Fonda, and to our fabulous night of Boots n’ Boogie at Cathy Allen’s, a great time was had by all in attendance!

A special thank you to the Santa Fe Committee (Linda Donnels, Deborah Jones, Mary Kipp, Caroline Little, Andrea Meditch, Deborah Peacock, Valerie Plame, Joanna Prukop, Helena Ribe, Ivy Ross, Linda Watt) and fantastic Co-Chairs (Cathy Allen and Jane Bernard) for all the time they spent making everything run so smoothly.

We couldn’t have done it without our generous sponsors – El Paso Electric Company; Executive Consulting, Inc.; Jane Bernard Photography; KPMG; La Fonda Hotel; Peacock and Myers PC; Synovus Financial Corporation; Ten Thousand Waves; The Santa Fe Group; and Charlotte and Caleb Whitmore.

Registration for the Annual Retreat in Mexico is now open! If you have not booked your room yet, make sure you make your reservations ASAP, details on how to register and book your room are below. We have over 75 people who have already booked their rooms so it looks to be a fun and eventful Retreat in January!

If you have any updates you would like to share for future newsletters, please email me or Leslie Dube (leslie@belizeangrove.org).

Cheers,
Susan

MINI RETREAT

2018 Mini Retreat
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON
September 13-15, 2018

The 2018 Mini Retreat will be in Seattle, September 13-15 with the opportunity for both pre and post trips. Our Seattle Mini Retreat committee is already hard at work planning the event securing high level speakers and exciting places to explore!

We will be staying at the beautiful Edgewater Hotel, The “Best Hotel in Seattle” (as reported by CNBC). With amazing views of the Olympic Mountains, the sparkling waters of Elliott Bay and breathtaking sunset views from your room while still staying at one of the best downtown Seattle hotels. You’ll be within walking distance to the city’s favorite sites.

This hotel also has a fun history. Originally built for the 1962 World’s Fair, The Edgewater Hotel remains as Seattle’s only waterfront hotel and has become a beloved local landmark. The Edgewater has hosted some of the most famous names in music, including: The Beatles, Pearl Jam, The Village People, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Ozzy Osbourne, KISS, Wings, Neil Young, Frank Zappa, Blondie, Jewel, David Bowie, Emmy Lou Harris, Iggy Pop, Jessica Simpson, Mel Tormé, REM, Rod Stewart, Willie Nelson, and more. Image result for the beatlesIn 1964, during their first world tour, The Beatles stayed at this Seattle hotel.. At the time, no other hotel in the city would accept The Beatles as guests; however The Edgewater happily welcomed them. Beatlemania so consumed Seattle that The Edgewater had to install cyclone fencing around the hotel to keep the screaming fans at bay. Some fans even tried swimming across Elliott Bay to reach the Fab Four.

Our room block is not yet open, we will send out an email in October announcing the opening of the room block and how to book your room. Please do not contact the hotel before our official room block is open.
