“Always be a work in progress” – Emily Lillian

Good day,

It has been a very busy month, working on many new initiatives, discussing and exploring ways to ensure the Grove is more inclusive, diverse, and a stronger community of trust. Thank you to the nearly 160 members who filled out the Grove survey earlier this month. The Executive Committee is diligently working on summarizing the key results and preparing a report to share with the entire membership. We will announce in the coming weeks the date of our next Town Hall meeting to discuss the results and next steps.

As we have witnessed over the past month, the Grove will evolve positively through your participation and recommendations. I hope this momentum of thoughtful reflection and pivoting will continue to shape our future. I look forward to reconvening in our upcoming Town Hall to share the collective progress on a redesigned Grove.

If you have any comments or updates you would like to share for future newsletters, please email me or Leslie Dube (leslie@belizeangrove.org). And don’t forget to share some of your favorite bumper sticker ideas here and we’ll feature in the upcoming Grove updates.

Stay safe, stay well.

Cheers,
Susan

Sunday Sisters

In the aftermath of George Floyd’s death and the national awakening to the need for greater understanding of racism in America, Naomi McDougall Jones invited other members of the Grove to join her in the “Great Unlearn” project. Launched by Rachel Carglye, the Great Unlearn is a self-paced learning community to explore how our society has been shaped from the eyes of white people. It offers online resources to groups of people interested in having “the discussion.”
Ten bold Grovers stepped forward to join Naomi for a 10-week, weekly discussion of race, racism, white supremacy and topics that are just plain HARD to face. Each week, 2 participants lead the group through a discussion of key issues. Those weekly leaders post links online to articles, books, videos, etc. that relate to each week’s discussion.

We have a member looking to engage with social media and is looking for support from either another member, or a child/relative of a member.
She could use a really good person to help build her landing page website for the presentations she has done as well as how best to use twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and other sites!
